The Friesian is more popular than ever, in both traditional
and new sport types. A stunning black horse with a dramatic
and statuesque appearance that is hard to ignore.  While
its lineage possibly  dates
back to the ice age, the Friesian horse was refined from a
heavy war horse through the introduction of Andalusian horses
from Spain during the 16 th and 17 th centuries. Some believe
that during this time the Friesian was brought to America with
the first Dutch settlers and may have possibly contributed
to the bloodlines of the Morgan Horse, the Canadian Horse and
the Tennessee Walking Horse.
It wasn’t
until the 1970’s though, that the breed once again set
hoof on the US shores. Not surprising that the magnificent
jet-black Friesian with a thick long flowing mane and tail
with lots of feathers, strong body that carries his head high
and proud with an arching neck would capture the American hearts …and
the best part is they also possess a kind and willing, easy-going
temperament with remarkable intelligence.
The heavy boned, high–stepping
Friesian traditional style “Baroque” is a beautiful
and strong carriage horse and a dramatic saddle horse. Dressage
riders look for the more modern sporty, lighter, “forward
moving” Friesian
with a lot of suspension - the sporthorse type. The Friesian
is an exceptional family horse because of his versatility – from
show horse to trail horse or both.
